This privacy policy explains how London Mapper ("we", "the app") handles your information. We have written this in plain English. If anything is unclear, contact us at the email address at the bottom.
1. Who we are
London Mapper is operated by Andrew J Spencer, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom, who acts as the data controller for the personal information described below.
Contact: support.londonmapper@gmail.com
2. What information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the app and operate your subscription.
a) Location data (on your device only)
When you grant location permission, the app reads your phone's GPS so it can:
- show your live position on the map,
- calculate routes around ULEZ camera zones,
- play turn-by-turn voice guidance.
Your location never leaves your phone unless you explicitly do one of the following:
- Tick the "Attach my current location" box when submitting a feedback report (see below), in which case the coordinates of that single moment are sent with the report.
- Use the postcode search bar (we send only the postcode you typed — not your live position — to the public postcode lookup service at postcodes.io).
We do not run any background location tracking. We do not store a history of your trips.
b) Routing requests (to third-party routing services)
When you plan a journey we send the start point, end point, and a list of points-to-avoid (the ULEZ camera coordinates near the start and end) to one of the following public mapping APIs to compute the route:
- OpenRouteService (operated by HeiGIT, Germany)
- OSRM (open-source public router; used only as a fallback)
These services do not require an account and we do not send your identity with the request. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
c) Issue reports you choose to send us
If you tap the help (?) button and submit a problem report, we receive:
- the issue type you selected,
- the description you typed,
- the email address you optionally entered,
- the GPS coordinates of your phone only if you ticked the box,
- a generic app-version string.
This is stored on our database (MongoDB, hosted in the European Union) so we can fix the issue or contact you back if you provided an email. We retain reports for as long as needed to resolve the problem — generally no longer than 24 months.
d) Subscription information (via RevenueCat)
We use RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) to manage in-app subscriptions on Apple and Google. When you purchase or restore a subscription, RevenueCat:
- generates a random anonymous user ID for your device,
- records whether you have an active subscription, the product purchased, and the transaction timestamp.
RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, payment card details, or precise location. Apple and Google handle the actual payment — we never see your card.
RevenueCat's privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
e) Information we do not collect
- We do not run any tracking SDKs, advertising IDs, or analytics on your trips.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties beyond the service providers listed above.
- We do not build an advertising profile.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
The mobile app does not use cookies. This privacy-policy page does not set tracking cookies either.
4. Legal basis (UK GDPR)
We rely on the following legal bases under UK / EU data protection law:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the navigation service you have paid for.
- Legitimate interest — to fix bugs and improve the app using the feedback reports you choose to send us.
- Consent — for optional location attachment in a feedback report (you tick the box).
5. How we keep your data secure
Communications with our backend use HTTPS. The MongoDB database is hosted on a managed cloud platform with access restricted to the operator(s). We do not store your bank/card details — Apple and Google do.
No system is 100% secure; if a breach affects your data we will inform you and the relevant supervisory authority as required by law.
6. Your rights
Under UK / EU data protection law you have the right to:
- request a copy of the data we hold about you,
- ask us to correct it,
- ask us to delete it,
- withdraw consent at any time (e.g. by stopping the use of the app and contacting us to delete any feedback reports tied to you),
- complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support.londonmapper@gmail.com.
7. Subscription cancellation
Subscriptions are managed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) — you cancel them from your device's Settings → Subscriptions, not from inside our app. If you cancel, your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period.
8. International transfers
The RevenueCat servers are based in the United States. The transfer of the limited data described above is covered by RevenueCat's standard contractual clauses with their customers. All other processing happens in the UK or EU.
9. Children
London Mapper is intended for licensed drivers. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a child has used the app and provided personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and surface a notice in the app on next launch. Continued use of the app after a notified change counts as acceptance.
11. Contact
Email: support.londonmapper@gmail.com
We aim to respond within 14 days.
Drive safely. Always obey road signs and traffic regulations. London Mapper offers route guidance only — it does not guarantee you will avoid every ULEZ charge.
